Why Join Prime lens media hub?
Prime Lens Media Hub is a South African NGO breaking down barriers in media education. We provide free and affordable training to young people, empowering them to become the filmmakers, journalists, and content creators shaping tomorrow's narratives.
Our Story
Prime Lens Media Hub was born from a simple truth: South Africa’s media industry doesn’t reflect the diversity of its people. Talented young voices from townships and rural communities have stories worth telling but lack access to the training, equipment, and networks that launch media careers.
We started with a vision to change that. What began as weekend workshops in Johannesburg community centers has grown into a comprehensive media education platform serving youth across South Africa. Today, we’re training the next generation of storytellers through hands-on programs, professional mentorship, and real-world opportunities.
Our students don’t just learn theory they create documentaries that premiere at festivals, launch podcasts that spark conversations, and land jobs at major media houses. Because when you give someone a camera and teach them how to use it, you’re not just teaching a skill. You’re amplifying a voice that deserves to be heard.
What are our Goals?
Goal 1: Access for All
Make media education accessible to 10,000+ South African youth by 2030
No one should be locked out of media careers because they can't afford film school. We're expanding our mobile training units to reach every province, bringing industry-standard equipment and expert instruction directly to underserved communities.
Goal 2: Career Pathways
Achieve 70%+ employment rate for program graduates
Training means nothing without opportunity. We're building partnerships with SABC, production studios, and media houses to create internship pipelines and job placements. Our graduates leave ready to work—with portfolios, industry connections, and real-world experience
Goal 3: Diverse Voices
Champion underrepresented storytellers in South African media
Half our programs prioritize women through SheShoots. We actively recruit from townships and rural areas. We teach in multiple languages. Because South African media should sound, look, and feel like South Africa—in all its beautiful diversity.
Goal 4: Continental Impact
Establish Prime Lens chapters across Africa by 2028
Great storytelling transcends borders. We're building exchange programs with Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana, creating a pan-African network of young media makers learning from each other and collaborating on projects that matter.

"As a young woman from Soweto, I never thought media was for someone like me. SheShoots showed me I belong here. Now I'm freelancing for community newspapers and documenting stories that matter to my people."
"The Media Mentors Network connected me with a BBC producer who guided my career transition. I went from zero experience to launching my own podcast about youth entrepreneurship in South Africa. The support here is unmatched."
